My Child’s Lost His Confidence: What Should I Do?

I Think My Child’s Lost His Confidence

It’s hard to believe that my child’s lost his confidence because he’s always been such a daredevil. He has always had little fear over anything and at times he’d have me squirming in my seat at the adventures he got up to. At two years old he put his plastic slide at an angle on the sofa so the decent was steeper. He has certainly made my heart climb out of chest on more than one occasion. At age three whenever we went near a theme park or fair he would be desperate to go on the huge rides and the smaller age appropriate rides didn’t get a look in. The thought alone made me terribly nervous, it’s no wonder I suffer with anxiety. I remember arguing with him trying to explain why he couldn’t go on a ride named the death slide.

His confidence and excitement for thrill was one of the reasons we went to Disney when he was four. We always planned on waiting so that we could all go on the rides we wanted together but we needn’t have worried because he was more than keen to ride everything!! He went on the tower of terror bearing in mind two weeks earlier he was still only three!! Basically for those of you who don’t know it’s an elevator style ride based around the twilight zone. The ride drops from a great height at high speeds again and again. I staggered off the ride shaking and when I looked down Henry was already telling me he wanted to ride it again! We rode that ride a total of 6 times in a row despite the fact, I the adult, would have rather sat it out!

Everything Changed

The following year we planned to go to Disney again but everything had changed. Suddenly Henry didn’t want to go on the rides especially not the ones he was so desperate to go on before. When we mentioned the tower of terror he was really unsure which felt so strange. This was his favourite ride of the previous year.

Why My Child’s Lost His Confidence

I could understand if something has happened between the first and second year of our trips. I’ve racked my brain relentlessly but nothing has happened and I’m struggling to see a reason why everything has changed so dramatically. His confidence has just taken a significant knock out of nowhere.

So if my child’s lost his confidence what should I do? Should I be worried or is this normal? Henry is my first child and I just sometimes feel out of my depth like I don’t know if I’m doing things right. This parenting malarky is hard work!
