Cosy Autumn Nights In With My Children (AD)

Autumn is my favourite time of year. I like the cooler weather and the autumnal fashion. It’s a time of year that signifies woodland walks and cosy nights in on the sofa. It’s a season of change when the leaves on the trees transform from green to gold. I’ve recently made an autumn bucket list, and I’ve spent the first part of this month turning my home into a shrine for autumn. As part of my ambassador role with Studio.co.uk, they asked me what we love to do the most as a family in autumn. It took a lot of deliberating, and although I have this obsessive love for this time of year, my absolute favourite thing to do is snuggle up and watch movies with my boys.

My Family & Autumn

Entertaining the children can be difficult at the best of times, and I embraced summer by getting them outside and into the fresh air. We went on family days out, had bank holiday picnics and spent many afternoons at the beach. Now that the nights are drawing in earlier and the weather isn’t always as pleasant as we would like there is a huge risk of hearing those dreaded words: “I’m bored!”

Now, there is no way on earth I am going to let these children ruin my favourite season by playing the “I’m bored” soundtrack on repeat! We have spent the past few months enjoying each others company and spending quality time together – which isn’t always easy in a busy household. These moments are precious, and I want to keep them alive, so that is why we make time each week to get cosy and snuggle up to watch a movie together.

Our Perfect Night

It all starts by setting the scene. We pull the blinds closed, turn on a lamp and light a candle. We all get bathed and in our comfiest clothes – dressing gowns are compulsory attire (we love our personalised ones from studio.co.uk.) Of course, you can’t have a movie night without fresh popcorn – which is Hugo’s all-time favourite snack! It’s fun and easy to make using our popcorn maker. Once everyone is ready, we snuggle up together on the sofa with a soft blanket and a giant hot water bottle!

Picking which movie, we will watch is probably the hardest part of the process. If Hugo had it his way, we would only ever watch The Lorax on repeat! I, of course, always opt for a classic – something nostalgic from my own childhood. Henry, well he is always in search of adventure and magic. This combination means we often end up with an eclectic mix of films from one week to the next, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

More than just a Night In

Even when the film is over no one rushes to leave, and we often spend the remainder of the night chatting. It’s a dedicated time to talk about the week and enjoy each other’s company without the distraction of homework, errands or the general hustle and bustle of life. I find that once summer is over and school starts again, it can be hard to find that time in the week.  In amongst the school runs and housework, there is after school clubs and swimming that all seem to drain the little time we have. That’s precisely why moments like these are precious. Cosy nights in are definitely a family favourite and autumn tradition in our house.

All of the items I have spoken about in this post are from Studio.co.uk and personally I think they are an absolute bargain – especially the bathrobes as they include personalisation and let’s be honest who doesn’t like that personal touch? Studio have also just launched their new app so you can browse their whole collection of items easily from your phone!

Love as always!
