I’m An Epaderm Ambassador For 2021 – AD

Late last year, you may remember I entered a competition with Epaderm to become a brand ambassador for 2021. Well, I am happy to announce that I won!! This is twofold excitement for me because, of course, I am delighted that I have won, but I am overjoyed to be working with a brand that I am so passionate about.

As many of you will know, I am a psoriasis sufferer, and I have regularly updated you on my skin journey here on the blog. I am a long term Epaderm user, so when I heard about the opportunity to become an ambassador, it really couldn’t be a better fit!

Living with Psoriasis & My Journey

Psoriasis is a skin condition that causes dry, itchy and often sore patches on the skin. The patches can appear anywhere on the body, and there is no rhyme or reason as to when they will come up or where. It’s something I have lived with my whole life, having inherited it from my Father and Grandfather. I’ve had moments in my life with very few psoriasis patches and then times when almost 90% of my body is covered. At times, it can be pretty unpleasant. It is irritable, itchy and can even be quite painful.

The main problem, though, lies with the fact that it isn’t pleasant to look at. I feel self-conscious when wearing short sleeves or summer dresses because people often comment or ask questions. I’ve told the story before of a woman pulling her children away from me because she thought it was contagious. Of course, it isn’t, but that doesn’t help how it makes you feel being that person!

My Journey & Epaderm

As soon as I received my psoriasis diagnosis, I was prescribed topical steroid creams to treat my condition. These creams did help, and my psoriasis would often clear up or at least reduce in size whilst using. It also helped with the soreness and itching, so it seemed like a win-win. That was until I noticed continual use was causing some skin thinning, and over time I needed stronger and stronger creams to achieve the same relief.

I became quite conscious of what I was putting on my body, and I spoke to my GP about my desire to halt treatment with these strong creams. Initially, I thought this meant that I would just have to live with the impact of psoriasis and risk my skin getting worse. However, I was surprised when my GP suggested an alternative which came in the form of Epaderm.

Epaderm is an emollient range that was developed by dermatologists to help manage dry skin and skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema. These topical emollients moisturise and calm dry, itchy skin and help provide a barrier to prevent skin from drying out again. Anyone that suffers from dry skin or skin conditions will know first-hand that certain perfumed cleansers and bath products can actually make their skin worse! What makes Epaderm a huge hit for me is the fact you can also use it as a cleanser!

My Children & Their Skin

Henry, my eldest son, has for the past few years been suffering from eczema. His skin is young and new, and of course, I don’t want to revert to steroid type creams unless entirely necessary. Epaderm is suitable for children of all ages, including babies, so I’ve started using it on both children as an alternative to bath and soap products which have caused irritation in the past. They both love it, and it leaves their skin soft, and Henry has seen a complete difference in his skin as a result.
