Safer Co-Sleeping with the Chicco Next 2 Me Crib

Chicco Next 2 Me

I’ve always loved the idea of co-sleeping and really wanted to give it a try with Hugo but I was also incredibly nervous. My head would race with questions like what if I rolled over onto him? The Lullaby Trust advises that the safest place for a baby to sleep is in their own bed such as a cot or Moses basket in the same room as you for the first six months. I began to think that maybe co-sleeping wasn’t for us and that’s when I learnt about the Chicco Next 2 Me Side Sleeping Crib and everything changed.

The Chicco Next 2 Me crib allows you to sleep next to your baby without sharing a bed. This makes me feel much more comfortable knowing that I can’t roll on him during the night but gives me the ability to still be close to him. I can reach my arm over to soothe him with ease and we can see each other throughout the night.

Newborn babies like to be close to their parents particularly in those first few weeks of life. Everything is new in their world and everything they know has now changed. Each day is full of learning experiences, new sights, sounds and sensations. Suddenly they have to get used to wearing clothes, nappies and communicating when they want or need something. Having Hugo close to me during the night gives us both comfort and Hugo sleeps much better than in a standard Moses basket. The crib makes breastfeeding during the night easy too because when he wakes I can just pull him in close for a feed and then return him to his bed once he is finished.

How did we get on?

Although I like the idea of a Moses basket I do feel they are somewhat impractical. I found that my first son Henry grew out of his quite quickly and had to be moved into a cot way before he hit six months. This poses a slight problem for us because we have a rather small bedroom without much room on either side of the bed. It is almost impossible to fit a full-size cot. This is one of the reasons I love the Chicco Next 2 Me Crib as it is far more practical in size than a Moses basket but it isn’t quite as large as a full-sized cot.

The soft sides and mesh windows mean that even if he wriggles around in the night he won’t bang himself. It is also handy having the crib on wheels so I can move it out easily to clean underneath. As a second time mum, I can appreciate the optional rocking feature too and is a great way to settle Hugo down if he is fussing. I wish I had a feature like this with my first it would have made the world of difference to us!

Having used the Chicco Next 2 Me Crib for the past few weeks I would say it is one of my must-have essentials. I find it easy to use, well-made and extremely practical. I’m grateful to have the ability to sleep close to my baby – safely something I thought wouldn’t be possible. The carry bag is ideal for travelling with the crib and means that no matter where we are sleeping my baby can sleep next to me without change. Assembly is simple and easy and just requires slotting a few pieces together. For added peace of mind, the crib also comes with straps to attach to the bed when using as a side sleeper. These are also easy to attach and detach as needed.

A useful piece of baby furniture. My son would have outgrown it by 3 months though!

Aw he’s so sweet! I wish I’d had one of these for Oscar! After he came out of intensive care I wanted to be near him all the time. I just couldn’t get hold of one in cyprus quick enough to warrant it

Oh I absolutely love this. They came out just after J was born so I missed them, but I would definitely get one if I have a second.
