If you’ve been following me for a while or know me personally, you will know I am big into Spirituality and Manifestation. A few years ago, I trained to become a Law of Attraction and Manifestation coach, and I’ve been helping support women through their manifestation journeys ever since. Manifestation has gained immense popularity in recent years, captivating the attention of those seeking to transform their lives, and the very idea that this concept is being adopted and used by so many more people just excites me no end. The belief that one can attract their desires through positive thoughts and intentions has sparked hope and curiosity worldwide. However, one thing I often hear when it comes to this concept is that manifestation doesn’t work. It’s common to hear of people finding themselves disillusioned by their lack of results. In this blog post, I want to explore the reasons why manifestation doesn’t always work as expected and offer some insights into a more effective approach so you can achieve the success that I know is available to everyone.

  1. Misunderstanding the Actual Concept of Manifestation

Before we can fully explore why manifestation doesn’t work we need to look at the understanding of what manifestation is. Manifestation feels magical, but it is not a magical process. As great as it would be, our thoughts do not instantly materialise into reality. There is no sudden poof of smoke in your living room clearing to reveal your wildest desires.  It is important to understand that simply wanting something or visualising it is not enough and is only part of the process. Manifestation requires a comprehensive understanding of the underlying principles at play.

Many people were introduced to the idea of manifesting through the book *The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. This is, in fact, how I was first introduced to the Law of Attraction myself. You can listen to my journey with discovering manifesting on S1 Ep1 of my podcast Manifestation in Jotion here – it describes how I went from rock bottom, on drugs, broke and alone to living a life beyond my wildest dreams! As much as I love The Secret and feel it really is a great introduction into the world of manifestation – unfortunately, that’s all it is – an introduction. The book itself lacks key information to really master the art of conscious manifestation. As a result, people read that book – based on its popularity, try the concept – fail and come to the conclusion that manifestation doesn’t work. In reality, they are just missing some key details needed to get things moving forward.

  1. Lack of Clarity and Specificity

One common pitfall in manifestation is a lack of clarity and specificity regarding our desires. This is the very first step in manifesting, and it is often the hurdle where people fall the hardest. Vague and ambiguous intentions hinder the manifestation process. You have to be clear and specific. When we fail to define our goals clearly, we leave room for uncertainty and conflicting energies. Don’t leave anything to chance. No question unanswered or detail left out. Imagine you are placing an order at a bar for a drink. Be clear, concise and specific otherwise, you’ll end up with something completely opposite to what you actually want.  To manifest effectively, it is crucial to precisely identify and articulate our desires. The amount of times people aren’t specific, and then they are disappointed when the opposite of what they want actually shows up!!

  1. Inconsistent Focus and Belief

Manifestation requires unwavering focus and belief in the desired outcome. I use the common manifesting phrase when coaching clients – Ask, Believe, Receive. Ask anyone with any knowledge of the Law of attraction and they will be able to recognise this very phrase. Although it isn’t enough on it’s own it forms the basic structure of the manifestation process and Believ is the second very important step. It’s not uncommon to see an individual struggle to maintain consistent positive thoughts and emotions. Even the smallest amount of doubt, fear, and negative self-talk can sabotage the manifestation process entirely. It is essential to cultivate a mindset of unwavering faith and belief in the possibility of our desires coming to fruition. You have to believe that you already have what you desire. You have to believe you are worthy of having it. If you think manifestation doesn’t work its likely because you lack some important belief behind what you desire.

It’s not uncommon for people to struggle with this part of the process. The Law of Attraction and manifestation go completely beyond everything we are taught about how the world works. Asking someone to put blind faith in a completely new way of thinking is, of course, not an easy task. For this reason, I always recommend that people begin their manifestation journey with something small and insignificant, like a feather or a pebble. It’s much easier to jump on board with the possibility you could manifest something insignificant like that than it is something with deep-rooted meaning or something you think is out of your reach. By starting small, you build up that belief in the process and the concept, which you can then use to fuel your bigger, more important manifestations.

  1. Ignoring the Importance of Action

There is a famous saying regarding manifestation: “Thoughts become things.” Although this phrase is entirely truthful, it sadly doesn’t;t mean we can sit in our living room, think a thought in our mind – see a poof of smoke and have it materialise. As nice as it would be we live in a human existence, thus relying on us taking what we often refer to as aligned action. Manifestation is not a passive exercise but an active partnership between our thoughts, emotions, and actions. While thoughts and intentions lay the foundation, they must be followed by purposeful action. Merely waiting for things to happen without taking steps towards our goals will impede the manifestation process. We must align our actions with our desires to manifest effectively.

  1. Neglecting Self-Reflection and Inner Alignment

Often, we focus solely on external manifestations, neglecting the crucial step of self-reflection and inner alignment. Our internal state, beliefs, and values greatly influence our ability to manifest. Addressing any limiting beliefs, past traumas, or emotional blockages is vital to create a fertile ground for successful manifestation. Self-awareness and inner work are pivotal in removing obstacles on our path to manifestation. We often call our inner state our vibration, and our vibration has a frequency which attracts like frequencies into our existence. Our vibration is indicated by how we feel. The better you feel, the higher your vibration and vice versa. For optimal manifesting, you want to be in a state of joy. This, of course, requires some inner work. You cannot manifest the dream job/partner/car without first working on your own vibrations.

  1. Unrealistic Expectations and Impatience

Manifesting is a game of patience. You don’t plant seeds and then dig up the soil to check if they are growing! You trust the process, water the soil and allow them time to grow. You have to treat your manifestations in the same way. The \universe reflects back to you your current state. If you are focusing on the lack of your manifestation, the Universe will deliver you more lack. It goes without saying that instant gratification and unrealistic expectations can hinder your manifestation. The Universe operates on its own timeline, and the manifestation process may take time – remember, it’s not magic! Impatience and frustration can introduce negative energy into the equation, sabotaging our efforts. Trusting the process and embracing patience are key elements in effective manifestation. This, again, isn’t an easy step to master, so don’t beat yourself up if you get caught in this loop. If you find yourself struggling – witness and honour where you are, release that impatience, and try again.

  1. Lack of Gratitude and Appreciation

Being in a state of gratitude changes everything. Gratitude is a powerful catalyst for manifestation. Expressing gratitude for what we have in the present moment opens the door to receiving more abundance. Focusing solely on future desires without appreciating the present can create a sense of lack and perpetuate the cycle of unfulfillment – resulting in more unfulfillment being delivered to us. By cultivating gratitude, we shift our mindset to one of abundance and attract more positive experiences into our lives – which is, of course, the ultimate goal.

In Conclusion

Despite what the books say – manifestation is a complex process that requires a deep understanding of its principles and a holistic approach. It really is a try and try again process as you feel and learn your way. Remember that you have spent your whole life believing the world works in the exact opposite way to how the Law of Attraction concept is described. If you find yourself wondering why manifestation doesn’t work, you are not alone. The inability to manifest desired outcomes is often rooted in misconceptions, lack of clarity, inconsistent focus, neglecting action, and overlooking self-reflection. If you can address these things, you will see a sudden shift and your manifestations will materialise with much greater ease.
