Modius Headset Update – Does It Work? (AD)

Modius weight

I’ve been using the Modius headset for the past month, and I thought it about time to fill you in on how things are going and give you a Modius update.

Recap

In my last blog post, I went quite deep in explaining where I was in regards to weight loss. I think it was safe to say the past few years have been intense, and both my body and mind have been through a lot. It had come to the point where I was ready to get a grasp on my weight and make positive changes in 2019 to reach my target weight. I planned on using the Modius headset in conjunction with a healthier lifestyle to try and shift some weight and feel better in my own skin. So does the Modius headset work?

How Have I Been Getting On?

I want to preface this by saying I have only been using the headset for a month, and I will be reporting again as I continue my journey. The Modius headset is designed using neuroscience and alleges to help decrease appetite, reduce cravings and help you feel fuller for longer. This sounds like a weight loss tool I could really benefit from. The Hypothalamus is the part of the brain that monitors hunger, and the Modius headset is designed to stimulate the Vestibular Nerve, which impacts the Hypothalamus positively.

Ideally, you need to be using the headset for a minimum of five days a week – more if possible. Initially, I found it hard to get into a groove, and I found the headset made me feel nauseous and a little motion sick. There are ten levels in total, but I struggled to find comfort at anything above level one at first. It has to be said I put a lot of pressure on myself to try and increase the levels too soon, but I found this just made me want to miss sessions entirely. I decided the best course of action was to stick on a low level until I felt entirely comfortable and only move up when I was ready. That first two weeks were quite grim, and I almost wanted to quit, but then suddenly things got more comfortable as if I was getting used to it. I now wear the headset almost daily, and I’m at the top level of 10. I don’t feel nauseous, and I can even sit and work or watch television without issue, which makes finding the time to use it much easier!

Problems, issues or complaints

I’ve got to be honest finding a whole hour to devote to wearing the headset can be difficult as a busy mum. My time is precious, and I don’t have too many extra hours in the day. When the headset is in use, you really need to be sat down for safety reasons as it can impact your balance. Now I’m finding the headset more comfortable to wear it means I can wear it while I work in the evening or when I’m catching up on TV, so it isn’t too tricky.

You can only use the headset once a day, which means that if I want to do a session in the evening one day and then the morning the following day – it won’t work. This can be frustrating, but it is to prevent the headset from being overused, so I understand it, but if I am trying to fit it into my day, it can have issues!

I have had a little irritation behind my ear where the sticky pads go, and I think this is down to using the alcohol wipes. If I wear the headset every day I have found my skin becomes sensitive, so to combat this, I have started using a little soap and water to clean the area rather than the alcohol pads. I think this is because I have particularly sensitive skin, but this small change has made a difference.

The chief complaint I have at the moment is to do with the Modius app on Android. I have found several times that my session has not recorded on the app, and this means I lose my streak. The session has recorded as the headset cannot be used again, but the app doesn’t hold the data. This doesn’t cause issues, but it is frustrating. I brought it up with the team who are aware of the problem and are working on a fix. As far as I’m aware, this only impacts android users. One way I’ve learnt to combat it is to make sure the app is open on my phone right before the session ends. This usually works on recording the session, but I don’t always remember to do it.

Positives

Before I get into if I believe the Modius headset works, I want to outline a positive the Modius is having on my sleep. On the days I’ve used the headset, my sleep is much deeper, and I find I fall asleep much easier. Of course, having an 11-month-old means sleep can be scarce; however, the rest I am getting is good quality, and I am waking up feeling far more refreshed. I notice days I don’t use the headset that my sleep isn’t as good.

The headset is really easy to wear and set up it doesn’t require you to run marathons or get your heart rate up so it is a simple tool that could help even those that are restricted in movement!

Does the Modius Headset Work?

The main thing everyone wants to know is, does the Modius headset work? I will be frank and say I have lost weight, but it is minimal. This is primarily due to the fact I haven’t been following a healthy lifestyle over the past month. What I will say is that my cravings have definitely reduced. I have an addictive personality and can become obsessed with certain foods and let me tell you it’s never salad! I have found that in the evenings I crave something sweet but since using the Modius headset that is no longer an issue. It is absolutely helping, and my appetite has significantly reduced since before I was using it.

As I mentioned previously, it took time to get into my groove with the headset, and this meant that I really had to build up to using it for the five sessions a week. Initially, I would do one day on one day off to get used to it so I anticipate that now I am using the headset five plus days a week as recommended I will continue to see results and decrease in my weight.

I do have to say as well that the Modius headset is not a miracle cure and it isn’t something that will just fix all of my emotional eating habits overnight, and it doesn’t make any of those bold claims either. Weight loss for me is going to be a process and as much as I would like to have dropped all of my excesses and have hit my target range that really isn’t going to happen straight away. What I wanted to see was a tool that I can use to help combat these deep-rooted issues and help aid my weight loss over the long term. That after all is why I am trialling it for 90 days rather than two weeks!

What Next?

I am going to continue using the Modius headset over five days – more if possible. I aim to continue using it at level 10 and at the same time, I will be working through my emotional relationship with food. In the future I will be updating you in the future, so keep following along if you would like to see how I get on.

If you want to give the Modius a try, you can follow along with me for 90 days and if it doesn’t work or you aren’t happy with it then you can get your money back! If you use code soph15 at the checkout, you will also get 15% off!
