Although I am a Manc girl through and through, and for our family, Manchester will always be home, I was actually born in York Hospital. Personally, York has a very special place in my heart, and it has become a family favourite place to visit. Of course, there is no better time to visit York than during the York Christmas Market! The York Christmas Market 2023 is set to be bigger and better than ever, and if, like me, you can’t wait, I’ve got all you need to know below!

When Is The York Christmas Market 2023
This year, the York Christmas Market 2023 will be held from the 16th of November to the 22nd of December 2023. This event sees big crowds and festive cheer in bucket loads! It’s certainly not an event to be missed, so be sure to add it to your calendar and secure the date!
What To Expect
York is always a magical city, but Christmas sees York transformed into a winter wonderland of joy and cheer. With more than 75 alpine chalets populating Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square, there is something for everyone. Gifts, crafts and food line on the streets amongst festive decor – the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit.

Answers To Some Questions You May Have
Do You Need Tickets to Attend The York Christmas Market 2023? York Christmas Market 2023 is free to visit, and you do not need to book in advance or have tickets. Just turn up and enjoy.
Where Can I Park? There are lots of car parks in York City Centre, all within walking distance of the Christmas Market; however, parking is limited and finding a space can be challenging on a normal weekend, let alone during the Christmas Market. York has fantastic FREE parking available at their Park & Ride locations, and with frequent buses, you will be at the Christmas Market in no time at all!
Can I Use Public Transport?
The York Christmas Market 2023 is very close to a number of bus stops and a good walking distance from York station if you are travelling from further afield. Public transport is strongly encouraged due to the nature of how busy the events can be. Of course, plan your journey in advance and know your travel times beforehand. York has a good, solid public transport service with lots of scheduled buses and trains on service, making it a great choice.

Where Is The nearest Hotel? York has an abundance of hotels and overnight accommodations, all within good walking distance from the Christmas Market. Due to the nature of how busy this event can be, it is best to check somewhere like booking.com for up-to-date locations that have availability. York has good public transport links so don’t be afraid to go for a hotel or similar further outside the city centre. Not only is this often a cheaper option it might make availability a little more flexible.
What Are The Opening Times? All gift and craft stalls open daily at 10:00 am – 7:00 pm (Monday – Sunday.)
Top tips
Whilst visiting the York Christmas Market, don’t forget to take in some of the other wonderful York City Centre attractions like York Minster and The Shambles. Both of these are within walking distance from the Christmas Market and are both festive in their own right!
For anyone who hasn’t visited the York Christmas Market before, it’s worth noting that the market is outside and uncovered. Dress appropriately for the weather with suitable footwear for walking. The market is spread across the city centre, and it does involve some walking and busy crowds.

York residents with a York card or identity card with proof of their York address can enjoy an exclusive 10% discount across the York Christmas Market 2023.

Reservations & Meals
I keep mentioning how busy the York Christmas Market gets, but I want to make sure you have the best experience. If you are planning on having a sit-down meal in a bar or restaurant, please book this in advance. Getting a walk-in reservation during a weekend at the Christmas Market is almost impossible, and if you’ve travelled a long way, this could leave you quite disappointed. Last year, restaurants were full up until 9.30 pm and by 9 am in the morning!!

York Christmas Market 2023 is sure to be a busy occasion, with crowds arriving in their droves.
