The safety of you, and your family is an important consideration no matter where you are, or what you are doing. Whether you are at work, enjoying an activity with friends, away on holiday, or for this example at home. There are many things that a person can do to improve the safety of their home, and here are a few of the top ways.

Install CCTV around your property

Several years ago, getting CCTV would have only been an option for those with a large amount of disposable income. However, thanks to the advancements in technology, and innovative inventions such as Ring Doorbells, it is now an obtainable security feature for many families around the world to incorporate into their home safety structure. If you live in a neighbourhood that is known for higher crime rates, or if you are falling victim to regular harassment, then installing CCTV cameras, or a doorbell that captures movement and sound is a great way of making your home a safer place. Not only will these devices capture who is responsible, but they may even deter anyone from targeting your home in the first place.

Improve online anonymity

While you are inside your home, casually browsing the internet you might feel safe, especially if you have the relevant anti-virus software installed on your devices, and are tech-savvy enough to know what to look out for when it comes to dodgy links or websites. However, what you might not be aware of is that even with all the protection you have installed, and the online safety knowledge that you process, you are still being heavily monitored, with vast amounts of data being collected about you and your family. For example, companies such as Google, and Meta already know a lot about you, such as your name, address, email, and phone number. Pair that with your online browsing activity, and they will be able to paint a pretty clear picture of who you are. Having all this information collected about you can be a worry to some people, and with good reason. Because of this, you should look into how to see what google knows about you. This way you can try to improve your online safety and anonymity, so as to help protect the identities of you and your family members online.

Get a dog

An old-school solution to helping improve the safety of your home is to get a dog of some kind. It doesn’t have to be a guard dog, and you don’t need to train it to specifically warn you about intruders. Most dogs will have a pretty good idea of who is normally allowed in the house, and who isn’t. Similarly to installing CCTV, if there were to be anyone that has an ill intention towards your home, they will likely be put off committing the crime if they hear or see a dog within the property.

Whether you are looking to improve your safety to be better prepared for an emergency at home or to simply help put your mind at ease, why not consider these top ways to make your home safer?
