Slimming World Crisps – Slimming Friendly Crisps

Slimming World Crisps – Slimming Friendly Crisps

No matter which weight loss plan you decide to follow, there are going to be some restrictions. It makes sense – if I ate as I have for the majority of my life, I wouldn’t lose weight; I’d continue to pile it on!! That being said, some plans like calorie counting are less restrictive in that you can eat what you want as long as you stay within a certain calorie amount. On Slimming World, you can have some treats as long as you stay within a syn allowance, etc. One thing I find myself craving when I am on a weight loss journey is crisps. If, like me, you are partial to a savoury snack, then these Slimming friendly crisps / Slimming World crisps might help.

As always, before undertaking any kind of weight loss or lifestyle change, it is always best to speak to a medical professional who is best suited to give personalised advice on your individual health needs.

Although great care has gone into the production of this post, it is for information purposes only. I am not affiliated with Slimming World, and they often tweak their plan throughout the year. I do my best to make sure the information is as accurate as possible. If unsure, it is always best to check with them directly at slimmingworld.com.

The Problem With Crisps

Crisps are a funny food in that they can be high in calories and fat but offer no real nutrition or satiation. Crisps are the food you mindlessly eat in front of the TV without even realising, and before you know it, the share bag is gone, and you are left craving more. Despite the fact they offer little in the way of nutritional value they are such a tasty food!!

Can You Eat Crisps And Lose Weight?

Can you eat crisps and lose weight? For sure. Crisps are part of the diets of most healthy-weight people. Crisps aren’t a bad food, but they do have to be eaten in moderation. You can’t eat crisps mindlessly while watching a TV show and lose weight – sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Some tips for people wanting to still enjoy their favourite snack whilst on a weight loss journey:

  • If you are on Slimming World, use your syn allowance to cover off your favourite snack. Make sure you weigh out the quantity and check with your consultant or Slimming World app for the correct values.
  • Choose baked crisps over fried and shop around for ones that are lower in calories or syns.
  • Make your own Slimming friendly crisps / Slimming World crisps using the recipe below.

Treats Are Important

As much as it’s easy to want to omit all luxuries from your diet in order to lose weight fast, it isn’t the best idea, and treats really are important. Regardless of what plan you are following, you want to look at your weight loss as a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. If you don’t, it can mean you see a reduction in your motivation, and your willpower can waiver. Instead of depriving yourself of a packet of crisps, enjoy them in a sensible way. Instead of binging a whole family-sized bag and having regret – weigh out an appropriate amount and or count the calories accordingly.

Slimming Friendly Crisps / Slimming World Crisps Recipe

These crisps in my opinion, taste like kettle chips, and the benefit of doing them yourself is that you can control the quantity of oil and extras. I top them with sea salt, but you could add crushed black pepper, paprika or another seasoning. Remember to syn or count the calories of any additions you add. If you want to make Slimming World Crisps and stick wholly to plan, you need to be cautious with this recipe. Although this is using free foods, you won’t be serving it with a third of a plate of speed food, and therefore, it doesn’t make it a truly ‘free’ food. If enjoyed in moderation or as a side with your lunch, for example, this won’t cause you any issues. What you can’t do is make these crisps and sit and consume the lot because it is ‘free.’ This Slimming World crisps recipe is designed to be used as a healthier – slimming friendly option.

Ingredients:

  • 4 Medium-Sized Potatoes
  • 1 Cal Frylite Spray
  • Sea Salt to Taste

Method:

  1. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
  2. Peel your potatoes.
  3. Slice the potatoes finely. This recipe does not work as well if the potatoes aren’t really thin. You should almost be able to see through them. I recommend using a slicer or a Mandoline if you can.
  4. Bring a pan of water to the boil.
  5. Add the sliced potatoes and cook for 3-5 minutes, depending on thickness. You don’t want your potatoes to go like mush.
  6. Drain and leave them to steam in the colander for a few moments.
  7. Lay them out on a baking sheet, giving them plenty of room.
  8. Leave them to dry for at least 20 mins longer if you can. The drier the potatoes, the better crisp they will have.
  9. Spray generously with Frylite and lightly season.
  10. Place them in the oven, rotate them at regular intervals, and season them again halfway through to your taste.
  11. Remove once crisp and golden brown, and season again if needed. Total cooking time should be between 20 -35 minutes.

Once cooked and cooled, place in an airtight container and eat them mindfully.
